October 18-20
10 am-4 pm EST
Instructor: Amy Erickson
Painting from a live model is one of the most unique and enjoyable experiences one can have in an art class. Acrylic painting provides us with some unique advantages to layer shapes quickly and edit decisions easily. In this class, we will focus on mastering the initial stages of painting an alla prima figure study in acrylic, finding and essentializing large shapes of color that become a figure in space. We will work on the essential building blocks of making a painting: color, light, and shape. This is not a class primarily about learning perfect anatomy or “getting the eyes just right”. It is about seeing masses of color and slowly breaking down these masses into more specific forms– if it is necessary to the composition. We will cover basic proportion and figure structure, but prioritize the experience of finding, simplifying, and organizing shapes of color. This class is suitable for beginners and intermediate painters alike!
There will be a lunch break each day. Lunch is on your own. The model fee is included in the workshop fee.
