We are thrilled to bring Turkish artist, Mustafa Ozel, to Townsend Atelier for three different workshops over the course of 5 days. You have the option of signing up for the 2-day Portrait Painting, the 3-day Figure Painting, or receive a discount by joining us for all 5 days of Immersive Portrait and Figure Painting. Each workshop is designed to be an immersive experience where Mustafa will share his invaluable insights and his unique painting technique. Working from live models, students will explore color, tone, tools, mark-making, anatomy, and individual emotion and expression. Students will be working from a live model. Model fees are included in the workshop fee. There will be a one-hour lunch break each day.

5 DAY IMMERSIVE PORTRAIT & FIGURE PAINTING WORKSHOP
Day 1: Portrait Painting
The workshop will begin with theoretical and practical explanations of the basic principles of art followed by an explanation of the formation options of portrait making, palette work will be done with the students. In the morning, Ozel will begin a portrait painting from a live model. IN the afternoon, students will start painting with the method he showed.
Day 2: Portrait Painting
In the morning session, Ozel will answer questions and then finish his demo portrait painting that he started the day before.
In the afternoon, the students continue painting their portraits receiving individualized instruction.
Day 3: Figure Painting
Along with the explanation of the basic principles of art, Ozel will make explanations about the development and change of figurative art by giving examples. From an unclothed model, Ozel will begin a painting demo and explain the importance of composition in the figure painting.
In the afternoon, students will begin their own work.
Days 4 & 5: Figure Painting
In the morning, Ozel will continue to work on his painting while answering questions from the students.
In the afternoon, students will continue their own paintings while receiving lots of individualized instruction and feedback from Ozel. In the afternoon of the last day, students will receive a general evaluation and critique.

About the instructor:
Mustafa Ozel was born in 1961, Turkey. He graduated from Marmara University, AEF Painting Department in 1984 and in the same year, he opened his studio in Maltepe. He worked with Galerie Bernard Desroches in Montreal from 2001 to 2004. He lives in Istanbul and continues to work in his studio in Kadıköy while teaching students of all ages. In his painting, Mustafa Ozel reflects emotions such as pain, joy, resistance, and happiness through human bodies and portraits. Instead of instant expressions, his portraits have continuity and experience. He has had numerous exhibitions in and around Turkey. His latest exhibition was held in Florence, Italy at OnArt Gallery in 2019. Mustafa’s portraits have been selected twice to exhibit at the BP Portrait Awards in London.
