February 9 & 10
10 am-4 pm
instructor:  Beck Chen

All levels are welcome!

We are excited to welcome Beck Chen as a new instructor at Townsend Atelier.  Beck will be here only a short time before returning to Russia, so now is your chance to study with this talented artist.  This two-day workshop will provide students with an opportunity to understand some fundamental principles when approaching a portrait drawing. The instructor will set up a model and draw examples from the Old Masters and academic training to demonstrate these principles.   Working from the model, students will focus on observing the subject matter carefully and understanding its form and structure while putting down each pencil stroke.

Materials list:
All materials can be purchased in Townsend Atelier’s shop prior to or during class.

Graphite pencil (HB, 2B, 6B)
Charcoal pencil
Knife for sharpening pencils
White or slightly toned paper 14*18inches
