The student will gain an understanding of the form and structure of the head, its major planes and volumes, underlying skull and musculature and proportion of its features to the whole. Modeling tools and techniques will be demonstrated for the beginner.  Upon completion the sculpture will be hollowed out to prepare for kiln firing.  Examples of portrait busts from early Egyptian through the 20th century will be referred to and compared to analyze a variety of stylistic approaches.  Materials, armature and model fee included.  Students may bring their own hand tools if they wish.  Students will have one hour lunch on their own.  All levels are welcome.
